This course provides an overview of Google Cloud Monitoring. Participants will learn to monitor across multiple projects, build insightful dashboards, and create uptime checks for resource availability. They will explore querying with Prometheus Query Language (PromQL) for advanced analysis and learn how to enhance observability using the AI-powered capabilities of Google Cloud Gemini.

  • General Cloud and IT concepts.

Introduction to Cloud Monitoring. Cloud Monitoring architecture patterns, including platform, application (GKE and Compute Engine), and hybrid monitoring.
Understanding metrics scopes. Configuring monitoring across different projects.
Cloud Monitoring data model, including time series data, metrics, and resources. Predefined versus custom dashboards. Utilizing the Dashboard builder and Metrics Explorer. Chart display options and configurations.
Querying metrics using PromQL. Overview of Google Cloud Managed Service for Prometheus.
Purpose and creation of uptime checks. Configuration options and Relating uptime checks to alerting policies.
Using Gemini Cloud Assist chat to test service availability, performance, and consistency. Simulating requests to assist with monitoring tasks.
Knowledge check on monitoring critical systems.
